The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet on Wednesday, April 28 at 5:45 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall on the Hampton campus. The Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee (FAML) will meet at 4:45 p.m. in Room 3, Harrison Hall. The Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee (CISS) will meet at 5:15 p.m. in Room 9, Harrison Hall.

Following the President’s report during open session, the TNCC Board will meet in closed session in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act to discuss specific personnel matters of the College. The Board will return to open session upon completion of its personnel matters discussion.

TNCC Board’s Executive Committee Meets April 19

The Executive Committee of Thomas Nelson Community College’s Local Board will meet in closed session on Monday, April 19 at 6 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall, Hampton campus.

The session is closed in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, §2.2-3711. as the committee will discuss specific personnel matters of the College.

TNCC Book Club at Historic Traingle Hosts Group Discussion April 16

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Thomas Nelson Community College’s Literature Circles kicks off its spring season with a discussion group meeting on Friday, April 16 on the Historic Triangle campus. Reading enthusiasts from throughout the community are invited to join TNCC students, faculty and staff at 1 p.m. in room 316 for discussions about Octavia Butler’s “Kindred” and “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch.

“Kindred” is the story of Dana Franklin, a black woman in 1976 suburban Los Angeles who is transported to an 1815 slave-holding plantation in Maryland. She has been called to save the son of the plantation master — her great-great-grandfather, Rufus Weylin, who has the ability to summon Dana to the antebellum South when he’s in trouble. She can only return to the present when her life is threatened. Over and over and at increasing risk, she is called to protect Rufus. Meanwhile in the present, Dana is married to Kevin, a gentle and progressive white man who can adjust with relative ease to 19th century life by virtue of his race and gender.

TNCC Book Club Invites Public to April 21 Group Discussion

Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Book Circles will kick off its spring season with a discussion group meeting on Wednesday, April 21 on the Hampton Campus. Reading enthusiasts from throughout the community can join TNCC’s Book Circles at 3 p.m. in Library Gallery, Wythe Hall, for discussions about “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith and Walter Mosley’s “Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned.”

“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” is a 2009 mashup that combines the classic 19th century tale of manners and status with modern action involving zombies and ninjas. While preserving much of Austen’s original text, Grahame-Smith introduces a zombie-invasion, ninja training and action-packed mayhem in the New York Times Bestseller.

HAMPTON, Va. – The Thomas Nelson Community College Board will meet Wednesday, February 24 at 5:45 p.m. in the College Board Room, Moore Hall on the Hampton campus. The Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee (FAML) will meet at 4:45 p.m. in Room 3, Harrison Hall.

The general Board meeting and Committee meetings are open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. Any member of the general public desiring to address the meeting must notify the Board Secretary (the President of the College) prior to the start of the meeting.
