Thomas Nelson Community College will be the site of the first Governor’s Academy for Innovation, Technology and Engineering (GAITE) exploratory event on Saturday, Nov. 15. Called, Designing the Future, the event is expected to draw roughly 75 middle school students from six school divisions to the Espada Conference Center in Moore Hall on the College’s Hampton campus.
The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and light refreshments. At 9:00 a.m. participants will engage in fun and interactive activities in topics such as modeling and simulation, smart materials, and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD). Thomas Nelson faculty members slated to lead the Digital and Rapid Prototyping workshop include Tom Pringle, CADD; Michael Uenking, Mechanical Engineering Technology; and Nina Mun, Engineering.
