Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday January 11-14 with a slate of activities. The calendar of events is as follows:

January 11 – Presidential Leadership Award Luncheon
11:30 a.m., Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg
Special guest Jeanne Zeidler, former Mayor of Williamsburg, will be awarded the TNCC Presidential Leadership Award. By invitation only.


Community Leaders Join TNCC Panel for Program Honoring MLK

A panel of community leaders including Fort Monroe Garrison Commander Col. Anthony Reyes will be part of a Thomas Nelson Community College program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 8 a.m. in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall, Hampton.

Moderated by TNCC Speech and Humanities Chair Bette Thomas, the panel will discuss Fulfilling the Dream: From King to Obama. Newport News Councilwoman Sharon Scott; TNCC Foundation Board Member Professor Emeritus Turner Spencer, Ph.D.; Daily Press Urban Affairs Columnist David Squires and Hampton-based First Baptist Church Pastor Richard W. Wills Sr., Ph.D., are also on the panel.


Thomas Nelson Community College to Celebrate Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

Thomas Nelson Community College will have its Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance on Tuesday, Jan. 15. A program themed Keeping the Dream Alive, 40 Years after King’s Death is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Hampton campus.

Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the Office of Student Activities and the African-American History and Culture Club, the free program is open to the public and will feature reflections on the day’s theme by TNCC students Ann-Marie Lovett and Jolene Nemec; a dance performance by the College’s Gator Velocity Dance Team and songs performed by TNCC student Rotita Dupree and Helen Stallings, a TNCC financial aid advisor. Dr. Charles A. Taylor, TNCC president will present the Second Annual Leadership Award to Tuskegee Airman, Ezra M. Hill, a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant and Hampton, VA resident.
