TNCC Adds New Courses for Spring 2012, Registration is Underway

Several new classes join Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) offerings for spring semester 2012. Spring classes begin Saturday, Jan. 7. Students may register and make tuition payments in person on the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, or online at The deadline for tuition payment is Friday, Dec. 9.

Among new classes is Animation I (ART 203). The four-credit course introduces the basic techniques of animation, both traditional and computer generated. Students will learn a variety of animation techniques through lectures, presentations, classroom work and outside assignments.

The TNCC Performing Arts Department is pleased to announce two brand new theater classes for Fall semester.

CST 145 – Stagecraft (Prof. Torre Sanders)

Have you ever wanted to know what goes on “behind the scenes” in theater? Stagecraft covers the basics of theater construction, lighting, sound and costuming. Come learn how to swing a hammer, turn a wrench, and paint a flat. Student lab work will include working as backstage and booth crew for MTCA productions.

(3 credits) Prerequisite(s): ENG 03 and ENG 05 and MTH 01 and MTH 03 if required by individual student’s placement. Acquaints the student with fundamental methods, materials, and techniques of set construction for the stage. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

CST 131 – Acting I (Prof. Sandra Calderón-Garza)

(3 credits) Prerequisite(s): ENG 03, ENG 05 if required by individual student’s placement. Develops personal resources and explores performance skills through such activities as theatre games, role playing, improvisation, work on basic script units, and performance of scenes. Part I of II. Lecture 2 hours + lab 3 hours = total 5 hours per week.

Added Courses Give TNCC’s Music Program a New Tune

TNCC Choral Ensemble to Perform on April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

THE VIRGINIA PENINSULA –   Some students are singing and playing a new tune at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC). For the first time in the College’s history, two performance-based courses join the line up of offerings in the Music Program thereby expanding opportunities for music lovers in the community.

New on the roster are Brass Ensemble (MUS 195) and Choral Ensemble (MUS 137).  The courses are open to current students as well as incoming students who are interested in honing their vocal skills or who have experience as brass instrument players.
