TNCC Names Broadcast Journalist Barbara Ciara as its Sixth Presidential Leadership Award Recipient

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) has selected award-winning broadcast journalist Barbara Ciara to receive its Sixth Annual Presidential Leadership Award. As part of TNCC’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observance, the award presentation takes place Thursday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. on the Hampton campus in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall. At TNCC’s Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg, a reception takes place at 11 a.m. on the second floor landing.

The College established its Presidential Leadership Award to honor Dr. King’s the life and work by recognizing an outstanding community leader and important role model for students.

Also as part of TNCC’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observances, faculty and staff volunteers  will participate in community service at a Hampton Soup Kitchen,  Warwick Forest Assisted Outreach Center in Newport News and the Grove Christian Outreach Center in Williamsburg.  Contact specialevents@tncc.edu for details about these Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 community service efforts.

Thomas Nelson Community College to Honor Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott on March 16

Thomas Nelson Community College has selected Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott to receive the College’s first annual Presidential Leadership Award. Thomas Nelson President Charles A. Taylor along with officials from the College will host a luncheon to honor the congressman and present him with the award on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center located at 600 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. The luncheon, originally scheduled for February 23, was re-scheduled due to the passing of Mr. Herbert V. Kelly Sr., an esteemed member of the Virginia Peninsula community.

“We are extremely proud to honor Congressman Scott. He is an exemplary public servant who strongly champions the concerns and issues that matter most to Virginia citizens. We want to acknowledge him for his support of legislation that impacts education, economic development and human rights, among other critical issues,” said Dr. Taylor. “During his career in the political arena and in law, Rep. Scott has set an excellent standard that we encourage our students at Thomas Nelson to aim for and emulate.”

TNCC Postpones Presidential Award Luncheon to Recognize Congressman Scott

Due to the passing of Mr. Herbert Kelly, Sr., an esteemed member of the Peninsula community, Thomas Nelson Community College has postponed the College’s Presidential Leadership Award Luncheon which was scheduled for Friday, February 23, 2007. Funeral services for Mr. Kelly will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The College will soon announce a new date for the luncheon.
