A new eight-week class offered at Thomas Nelson Community College will give new or returning students and working professionals the opportunity to start or continue their education this spring semester. On Saturday, March 10, more than seventy day, evening, weekend and online classes will start at the Hampton campus, the Historic Triangle campus and at the recently opened Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News located at 5720 Marshall Avenue in the Achievable Dream Middle and High School.
At the Southeast Higher Education Center, where unduplicated student enrollment has more than doubled from the fall semester 2007 to Spring 08, from 68 to165 (as of Feb. 13), students can take advantage of such classes as Introduction to Computer Applications and Concepts, History and Appreciation for Art, Grammar for Writing and Speaking, Introduction to Office Technology, Keyboarding II, Multimedia Software, Office Administration II, Principles of Sociology, United States History I and Word Processing.

As the College continues to grow and expand its programs and services to meet the higher education and training needs on the Peninsula, Thomas Nelson Community College is proud to partner with An Achievable Dream Academy (AAD) to establish the Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News. In alignment with the College’s vision to “anticipate and shape the future by providing individualized, flexible, technologically advanced education in a supportive environment that meets the diverse and evolving needs of our students …,” TNCC joins a cadre of community leaders such as Newport News Public Schools, Riverside Medical Group, Northrop Grumman and Ferguson Enterprises in a concerted effort to make a difference and provide educational opportunities to Southeastern Newport News citizens.
An Open House is set for Thursday, July 26 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the 5720 Marshall Ave. center giving the public at large an opportunity to see the facility firsthand while also hearing from TNCC representatives about the College’s vision for the center, its planned class offerings and other essential information.
