Second Eight-Week Class Session at TNCC Offers Opportunity to Start or Continue Education This Spring

It’s not too late to start spring classes at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC). The College’s second eight-week session starts Monday, March 12. Take classes at the Hampton campus and the Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg. Day, evening and online classes are available. Visit www.tncc.edu for a complete list of classes.

Students can register online at www.tncc.edu, or in person during the following times: Monday – Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon in Room 208, Griffin Hall on the Hampton campus. At the Historic Triangle campus, visit room 117 to register. Tuition payment for this eight-week class session is due at the time of registration.

New Online Course in Japanese among Spring 2012 Classes at TNCC

Several new classes join Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) offerings for spring semester 2012. Spring classes begin Saturday, Jan. 7. Students may register and make tuition payments in person on the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, or online at www.tncc.edu.

A new distance learning course, Japanese I (JPN 101), is among new classes. The online course is taught by Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) using Blackboard via the Internet. The five-credit course develops the understanding, speaking, reading, and writing of Japanese and emphasizes the structure of the language.

Those interested in Japanese I may join TNCC on the Hampton campus for a one-hour orientation session at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall. For more information, contact TNCC Program Director Karen Althoff at AlthoffK@tncc.edu.

TNCC Adds New Courses for Spring 2012, Registration is Underway

Several new classes join Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) offerings for spring semester 2012. Spring classes begin Saturday, Jan. 7. Students may register and make tuition payments in person on the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, or online at www.tncc.edu. The deadline for tuition payment is Friday, Dec. 9.

Among new classes is Animation I (ART 203). The four-credit course introduces the basic techniques of animation, both traditional and computer generated. Students will learn a variety of animation techniques through lectures, presentations, classroom work and outside assignments.

TNCC to Introduce New Developmental Math Model, Spring 2012

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will introduce a new course model for developmental math students during the spring 2012 semester. The redesign is part of a Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS) initiative to reduce the overall need for developmental education, reduce students’ time in developmental courses to one academic year and increase the number of developmental education students graduating or transferring in four years from one in four students (25 percent) to at least one in three students (33 percent). TNCC faculty Elena Byrd, Theresa Nystrom, Libby Arnesen, Mary Dubbe and Steven Wells were directly involved with the VCCS’s redesign efforts. They have been assisted with campus implementation planning by Duane Nestor, Rudy Schwab, Cathy Hoffmaster, and Sandie Dashiell.

Priority Registration for Spring 2012 at TNCC Begins October 24

Priority registration for spring 2012 classes at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) begins Monday, October 24 and lasts through Sunday, October 30. During this period, all currently enrolled students can register and pay tuition for spring classes.

Spring classes begin Saturday, January 7, 2012. Students may register and make spring tuition payments in person or online via MyTNCC.
