Holiday Gift Drive for TNCC Families Underway

Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Student Government Association (SGA) is conducting its Annual TNCC Stars Holiday Gifts program to benefit families in need.

Those interested in purchasing gifts for children of TNCC students may take a star from a holiday tree located in Gators Café (Griffin Hall) or in the Student Commons at the Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg, sign up on the list beside the tree, and bring unwrapped gifts to the Student Activities Office located at:

  • Room 224, Griffin Hall – Hampton
  • Suite 229 – Historic Triangle

The gifts will be distributed during Holiday Stars parties at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 13 and Friday, December 14 on the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses, respectively.

TNCC Observes World AIDS Day with Activities to Raise Awareness

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will host a series of activities in observance of World AIDS Day on Thursday, Dec. 1. Hampton campus activities take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Griffin Hall and the observance is from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Commons on the Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg. Activities are free and open to the public.

Coordinated by Self Protection Awareness of Newport News through TNCC’s Student Activities office, the day will include free HIV testing for the first 30 attendees provided the AIDS Fund, an informative slideshow presentation and door prizes. Red ribbons, risk reduction supplies and educational material will also be available.

Student Activities Day Sept. 6 on Hampton Campus

Thomas Nelson Community College will host Student Activities Day on Tuesday, September 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students are invited to gather in the campus courtyard near Griffin Hall to meet the 2011-12 Student Government Association leaders and learn more about Student Life at TNCC.

The  event will feature Comedian Jonathan Burns as special guest. Back at TNCC by popular demand, Burns specializes in stand-up comedy, juggling, contortionism, and sideshow stunts. When he is not performing at festivals and colleges around the globe, he completes graphic design projects for other performers.

TNCC Police Host Safety Awareness Event Aug. 23

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Campus Police will promote safety awareness during “Blue Light Special” on Tuesday, August 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Griffin Hall lobby on the Hampton campus and on the second floor of the Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg. This marks the fourth year for the semi-annual event.

Co-sponsored by Student Activities, the event is an opportunity to meet members of the College’s police force and learn useful, lifesaving information. Attendees will receive information about driving safety and alcohol awareness. TNCC police will also provide parking rules and regulations and information about the e2Campus system, a self-service, web-based, mass notification network that allows TNCC to send instant alerts to faculty, staff and students.

Colleges Spring Fest is April 13 at Historic Triangle and April 21 in Hampton

The College’s annual Spring Fest takes place Wednesday, April 13 at the Historic Triangle campus from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursday, April 21 on the Hampton campus  from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Students, faculty and staff are invited to gather in campus courtyards for food, music provided by a disc jockey and other activities.

Picnic lunches will be available for $3, $1 for those with a TNCC Student ID. Donations for the South Africa Book Smart Foundation Drive will be accepted on-site. Those who donate textbooks during Spring Fest will receive $1 off of lunch.

Open House at TNCC to Highlight Educational Opportunities Available to the Community

Sometimes it’s All Fun! is the theme of the Open House to be held at Thomas Nelson Community College on Friday, March 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Parents along with new, prospective and returning students are invited to participate on the College’s Open House to meet with the TNCC faculty and deans of the college’s four academic divisions who take pride in helping students meet high standards in the classroom while creating a supportive learning environment.

Participants attending the Open House will also have an opportunity to attend the several workshops planned to discuss admission, transfer options, financial aid, scholarships and other opportunities available at the College. There will also be an opportunity for prospective students to apply to TNCC. The morning activities will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. with tours planned at 8:30 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. During the afternoon Open House, tours will be conducted at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
