TNCC Presents Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in April

Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Performing Arts Department will bring William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to the Hampton campus weekends April 12 — 21 at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium in Templin Hall. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students, seniors, military and TNCC personnel and are available at www.tncc.edu/performingarts/ .

Shakespeare’s most popular and widely performed comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” was written in the 1500s and explores the universal theme of love and its complications including lust, disappointment, confusion and marriage. Set in mythical Athens, it depicts three parallel stories — the adventures of two sets of young lovers camping in a magical forest, the world of a fairy king and queen interacting with their fairies and a group of amateur actors rehearsing a poorly written play about a wedding. TNCC’s Black History Month Celebration Features Olympic Gold Medalists, Gymnasts Dawes and Douglas

Olympic gold medalist and motivational speaker Dominique Dawes will bring her message “ENVISION: Reaching your Full Potential” to Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) as a part of a series of events celebrating Black History Month.

Free and open to the public, Dawes’ presentation will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium in Templin Hall at TNCC’s Hampton campus. ENVISION is an acronym for the eight principles that helped Dawes become successful in and out of the athletic arena and is also the title of her motivational line of products.

“I am excited to be a part of the Thomas Nelson Community College’s celebration of Black History Month,” said Dawes. “The theme ‘Empowerment through Fitness’ is a message that is important to me and one that mirrors one of my philosophies.”

Olympic Gold Medalist Opens TNCC’s Black History Month Celebration

Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Black History Month celebration begins Thursday, Feb. 7 with a program featuring Olympic gold medalist Francena McCorory as guest speaker. Themed “Empowerment through Fitness,” the College’s celebration continues Monday, Feb. 11 with an appearance by University of Virginia’s (UVA) head football coach Mike London.

Free and open to the public, both one-hour events take place at 7 p.m. on the Hampton campus in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall.

TNCC Students Showcase Work in Semi-Annual Digital Film Festival

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Art Department will showcase student talent during the semi-annual Digital Film Festival on Tuesday, April 13. Free and open to the public, the 7 p.m. event takes place in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall, Hampton Campus.

The upcoming spring festival will not include judging or prizes. Instead, the students will display their work without the pressures of a contest and benefit from audience feedback. The opinions from the audience will be valuable tools for the students as they work to enhance their creativity and production skills. The department will showcase 30 to 40 pieces this year.
