Poquoson Island Players will present “Lend Me a Tenor” September 16 – 25 at Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Hampton campus. The show is open to the public with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. shows on Sundays.
The Ken Ludwig comedy finds famed opera star Tito Merelli in a hilarious series of mishaps when he arrives late to perform with the Cleveland Opera. After Merelli is accidentally given a double dose of tranquilizers, Cleveland’s premiere opera producer thinks he is dead and launches a frantic attempt to put on a show without Merelli. Of course, things don’t go as planned and comedy fills the production.

Thomas Nelson Community College has expanded its offerings for the fall semester to include CST 131: Acting I and CST 145: Stagecraft. The three-credit courses will enhance the curriculum offered by the TNCC Performing Arts Department which includes opportunities for performance and coursework in Music and Theater. The department is rapidly expanding and will be increasing course offerings continually. All courses and ensembles are open to all TNCC students.
Acting I guides students through the exploration and development of performance skills using theater games, role playing and improvisation. Other activities will focus on basic script units and scene performance.

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Players and Performing Arts department will have auditions for the Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s musical, “Cinderella,” on Monday, August 29 and Tuesday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. on the Hampton campus in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium, Templin Hall.
Auditions for the production, which opens Friday, November 11 at the College, will consist of cold readings from the script and movement exercises. Directors ask that auditioners prepare 16 measures of a vocal selection and be prepared to sing an additional piece in a contrasting style upon request.

The TNCC Performing Arts Department is pleased to announce two brand new theater classes for Fall semester.
CST 145 – Stagecraft (Prof. Torre Sanders)
Have you ever wanted to know what goes on “behind the scenes” in theater? Stagecraft covers the basics of theater construction, lighting, sound and costuming. Come learn how to swing a hammer, turn a wrench, and paint a flat. Student lab work will include working as backstage and booth crew for MTCA productions.
(3 credits) Prerequisite(s): ENG 03 and ENG 05 and MTH 01 and MTH 03 if required by individual student’s placement. Acquaints the student with fundamental methods, materials, and techniques of set construction for the stage. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
CST 131 – Acting I (Prof. Sandra Calderón-Garza)
(3 credits) Prerequisite(s): ENG 03, ENG 05 if required by individual student’s placement. Develops personal resources and explores performance skills through such activities as theatre games, role playing, improvisation, work on basic script units, and performance of scenes. Part I of II. Lecture 2 hours + lab 3 hours = total 5 hours per week.

Iron Street Productions will present the comedic play “Five on the Black Hand Side” July 15-24 at Thomas Nelson Community College in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium on the Hampton campus. The production is open to the public with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. and 3 p.m. shows on Sundays.
“Five on the Black Hand Side” tells the story of a middle-class African American family headed by Mr. Brooks. The domineering Mr. Brooks is forced to rethink his values when his previously docile wife joins their three children in rebelling against his retrogressive ways. Urged on by her feminist friends, and her militant son, Mrs. Brooks delivers her own list of demands to her husband in effort to change his tyrannical ways all before their daughter’s wedding which takes place in two days. Due to adult content, parental discretion is advised.

HAMPTON, Va. – Do you have a passion for the stage? Now is the time to show off your acting ability. Thomas Nelson Community College’s (TNCC) Department of Performing Arts will present “Frankenstein – A Radio Drama” June 23-26. Open auditions will be held at 7 p.m. May 23 and 24 in Room 830, Templin Hall.
Audition participants will be asked to perform cold readings from the script, and six men and four women will be selected to star in the production. Two sound artists and one keyboardist will also be selected for the production.
