Effective Friday, May 6, 2011, the current food service provider will cease service to Thomas Nelson Community College.  A student committee formed last year by the Office of Student Affairs requested that the College seek to bring a national branded (name brand) food service provider.  Through a formal bid process by the Purchasing Department, a contract has been awarded to Subway, Inc.  They will provide a full menu of breakfast selections, sandwiches, soups, chili, and salads at the Hampton campus, and a modified menu at the Williamsburg campus.

Renovations to the kitchen and serving areas will commence shortly.  The cafeteria is expected to be fully operational in early August 2011. In the meantime, our current vending machine provider will install additional machines with enhanced food options. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we see this opportunity as a way to respond to requests and provide healthy choices for the entire campus community.

Financial Aid Update: ECMC Borrower Data Recovered, Officials Believe Data Was Not Compromised

ECMC notified borrowers, partners and industry colleagues that law enforcement officials have recovered the data that was stolen from ECMC headquarters last month and that a suspect is in custody. Law enforcement officials do not believe the data has been compromised. Investigators with the Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force (FCTF) and the Minneapolis Police Department recovered two stolen safes that contained CDs and floppy discs with personal information on more than three million federal student loan borrowers. Investigators say the safes were found in Minneapolis within 48 hours of the burglary.

“We will keep our call center open as long as needed to answer borrower questions, and we will continue to honor our commitment to provide free credit monitoring services through Experian to borrowers whose data was included in the theft,” wrote ECMC President and CEO Janice Hines in a letter notifying schools. “All impacted individuals have been sent a letter from ECMC with instructions on how to activate these protective services. All of us at ECMC are delighted by this news and hope that it provides some comfort to affected borrowers.”

Financial aid award notifications for fall 2010 and spring 2011 will be on hold until tuition has been determined for the fall 2010 semester by the Virginia Community College System. We expect this decision to be made the week of May 17th. Students who have submitted a complete and eligible financial aid application (FAFSA) and have provided all verification documents if selected will be notified via their VCCS e-mail account of their awards.

You will be able to view your financial aid information online through the MyTNCC web portal.

Award activation will not be required. However, if you are offered a student loan, you will need to complete additional paperwork. The instructions will be included with your award e-mail. We appreciate your interest in attending Thomas Nelson Community College.
