This month, Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will begin a new program to benefit Peninsula jobseekers and employers in the medical field. TNCC, already an experienced accelerated healthcare training provider, has added a 2-month nurse aide program to its Workforce Development fast track classes in Williamsburg. The first class starts Tuesday, January 25, and other classes will be scheduled as needed.
The new program addresses the needs of Peninsula businesses now facing a growing nurse aide shortage in hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities. “Our first class begins with ten students, but one local employer recommended that we double that to twenty as soon as feasible because of the shortage of nursing aides in the region,” says Carmen Burrows, Associate Vice President for Workforce Development at TNCC.
