Thomas Nelson Community College inaugurated President John T. Dever on Friday, October 12 before an audience of more than 300 students, faculty, staff, TNCC retirees, and dignitaries from throughout Virginia. Featuring Sen. Thomas Norment Jr. (R-James City County) and VCCS Chancellor Glenn DuBois as speakers, the ceremony took place on the Hampton campus in Templin Hall’s Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium.
Having taught English at TNCC from 1975-1995, Dr. Dever selected a quote from Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” as the theme – “something of great constancy.” Sen. Norment called Dr. Dever a man of unwavering passion for higher education and an advocate for community colleges. Referring to Dr. Dever as “a teacher’s teacher,” Dr. DuBois presented TNCC’s eighth president with the traditional symbols of the president’s office – a gavel and medallion.
