TNCC’s Public Relations Office Garners 11 National/State Awards

Thomas Nelson Community College’s Office of Public Relations, Marketing, and Special Events won 11 state and national awards for its 2006-2007 multimedia promotional campaign bringing the department’s total awards to 26 in the last two years. The department submitted 28 entries for consideration to several professional organizations that rate public relations material in the higher education arena.

“Supporting the mission of Thomas Nelson Community College through creative and innovative multimedia material to effectively reach a broad audience is what truly drives our team,” said the College’s Public Relations Director Cecilia Ramirez. “We always strive to produce quality material because this is essential to strategically positioning TNCC and our brand in the College’s service area,” she added.

The team captured two Virginia Community Colleges Association (VCCA) awards and an honorable mention from the organization; six Admissions Marketing Advertising Awards; and an honorable mention from the Council for Advancement and Support for Education (CASE). The list of awards is as follows:

VCCA Awards

First Place – Broadcast Recruitment Video
Third Place – Print Ad Quench Your Thirst
Honorable Mention -Print Ad Construction Management
Finalist-Radio Program TNCC Faculty Experts Announcements
The VCCA received 191 entries from 17 colleges and the Virginia Community College System for its 2007 Excellence in Communications Awards. Founded in 1983, the VCCA promotes the development and advancement of community college education in the Commonwealth.

The annual Admissions Advertising Awards is the oldest and largest educational advertising awards competition in the country. A national panel of judges consisted of admissions marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of Admissions Marketing Report. This year over 2,100 entries were received from over 1,200 colleges, universities and secondary schools.

CASE (District III) Awards

Honorable Mention-Newspaper Ad/Single Quench Your Thirst
CASE’s District III includes more than 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary institutions in the Southeastern United States. The organization, which has the most competitive awards program in the nation, received more than 1,100 entries for 2007.
