Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will celebrate its 41st commencement ceremony Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hampton University Convocation Center.
The Commencement speaker is Mrs. Thomasina R. Wright, a Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding executive and TNCC alumna. One of the two highest ranking African American women at Northrop Grumman’s Newport News location, Mrs. Wright is Trade Director of the Aircraft Carriers Program.
A resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, she earned an Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Thomas Nelson, a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary.
She began her career in 1983 as a design/lofting apprentice at Newport News Shipbuilding and has since held progressively challenging positions within the company including quality engineer, chief inspection supervisor, and director of subcontract management.
