TNCC Board to Meet Sept. 22, Welcomes New Members

The Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) Board will meet on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:45 p.m. on TNCC’s Hampton campus the College Board Room, Moore Hall.

Earlier meetings that day will include the Board’s Financial and Municipal Liaison Committee convening at 4:45 p.m. in Room 3 of Harrison Hall, and the Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services Committee at 5:15 p.m. in Room 9, Harrison Hall.

The Board is comprised of 14 members from six localities in the TNCC service area and acts in an advisory capacity to the State Board for Community Colleges and the College’s President. Joining the Board as new members are Kyle P. Adams (Hampton), Albert O. Louer (Williamsburg), Mary B. Oder (Newport News) and Deborah R. Reese (Hampton).

The general Board meeting is open to the public in accordance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

About the new members

Kyle P. Adams, a Newport News native who has resided in Hampton for five years, attended the Virginia School for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement completing training with the Virginia State Police. Currently employed at Northrop Grumman, he is also a political consultant. He formerly chaired the Republican Party of Hampton and is founder/chair of the For Freedom Conservative Network, a state political action committee. Adams is a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Skills USA Virginia State Champion in Law Enforcement / Criminal Justice, Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services State Compliance Agent and a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Security Officer and Alarm Respondent.

Albert O. Louer, a native of Highland Park, Illinois and Williamsburg resident of nearly 30 years, has a degree in history from the College of William and Mary. With a background in public relations, development and fund-raising, he is the director of principal gifts in Colonial Williamsburg’s development program and has served on the boards of the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Alliance and the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce. He is a senior member of the Society of American Travel Writers; a board member of the Center for Railroad Photography and Art in Madison, Wisconsin and a board member of the College of Arms Foundation in New York and London. He is a life trustee of Lake Forest Academy, a college preparatory school in Lake Forest, Illinois and a member of the Metropolitan Club of the City of Washington.

Mary B. Oder has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. A certified financial planner and an enrolled agent, she is currently with the accounting firm of Witt Mares, PLC, specializing in taxation, consultation and planning for small businesses and high net worth professionals. Her civic and community affiliations include Newport News School Board (member and former chair), Board of Directors for the Virginia Living Museum (member), Preschool Partners of the Virginia Peninsula (co-chair) and Local Finance Board for Newport News Public Schools (member), to note a few.

Deborah R. Reese has a Bachelor’s degree in French from Hampton University and a Master’s degree in Interpersonal/ Intercultural Communication from Norfolk State University. She is an educator at Hampton University. Her civic affiliations include service on the RiverChase Community Board of Directors as treasurer, Hampton City Parking Board membership and a volunteer stint with the Peace Corps from 1976-1979 on the Ivory Coast of West Africa.
