Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will celebrate the inauguration of its President, John T. Dever, on Friday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. on the Hampton campus in the Dr. Mary T. Christian Auditorium in Templin Hall. Offices on TNCC’s Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses are closed to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Classes are cancelled. Bookstores on both campuses will observe normal operating hours. Additionally, Workforce Development employer training programs and services at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center will run as scheduled.
The Inauguration Ceremony will feature Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr. and Virginia Community College System Chancellor Glenn Dubois as guest speakers.
With a career in education spanning more than 40 years, Dr. Dever became President of TNCC in October 2011. Before joining TNCC, he was Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Services at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia.
His background in higher education also includes service as Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Tidewater Community College; Dean of Instruction and Student Services at Blue Ridge Community College; and 20 years as a Professor of English and Chair of the Communications and Humanities Division at TNCC.
Dr. Dever has a Bachelor’s degree in History from Bellarmine College in Louisville, Kentucky, a Master’s degree in English from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia.
