Update: TNCC will open on Tuesday, October 30, at 11:00 am for all faculty, staff and students

Published: October 28, 2012

Update:  The college will open on Tuesday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. for all faculty, staff and students (except any essential personnel who may have to report earlier).   This decision was based on an assessment of weather and road conditions, the condition of the campus facilities and grounds, and openings for public schools and local colleges and universities.

Due to Hurricane Sandy TNCC will be closed on Monday, October 29th. Both the Hampton and Historic Triangle campuses as well as the Southeast Higher Education Center will be closed for safety reasons.

Please continue to check TNCC.edu for updates on College operations.

Comment from Asia Scaife - October 29, 2012 at 3:51 pm

Will school be cancelled on Tuesday October, 30, 2012 due to the hurricane?

Comment from Kenny - October 29, 2012 at 4:15 pm

School should be closed tomorrow as well. It’s irresponsible for the school to make students choose between academics, work obligations, and personal safety, especially when neighboring colleges like CNU are closed.

Comment from Thomas Nelson Community College - October 29, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Thomas Nelson officials continue to monitor the storm and will make a decision concerning Tuesday the 30th shortly. Please continue to check TNCC.edu for updates.

Comment from Danny - October 29, 2012 at 4:24 pm

There are many students who are unable to leave their houses due to the flooding, if CNU is closed then we should be closed too.

Comment from james - October 29, 2012 at 4:49 pm

TNCC Officials: Students are trying to make plans for rides due to flooding and no power; other schools in the area have advised their students not to attend school on Tuesday. Can someone make a decision soon while I still have power.!

Comment from Brittany - October 29, 2012 at 5:01 pm

I’m water logged in my part of suffolk, sucks being in a low laying area. don’t think i’ll be classes tomorrow.

Comment from Joe - October 29, 2012 at 5:11 pm

So, Whats the word on tuesday?

Comment from Haley Crook - October 29, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Tcc is closed tomorrow so Thomas nelson should be as well. I live an hour away and the roads and bridges are way to dangerous with flooding for students to be attempting to get to Hampton Tuesday.

Comment from vby - October 29, 2012 at 5:27 pm

School should be closed tomorrow and registration should be extended. I should not be able to choose between going to class and my safety.

Comment from Rakia - October 29, 2012 at 5:43 pm

CNU is closed. I don’t understand what there is to think about? Tncc should be closed tomorrow.

Comment from Julia - October 29, 2012 at 5:55 pm

And when will this update happen? It’s going on 6 p.m. Do you suggest us to check later around like 9 p.m.?

Comment from Gabriel - October 29, 2012 at 5:59 pm

I support closure. According to the charts, were still in the middle of this storm, and many will be left without power.

Comment from alex - October 29, 2012 at 6:01 pm

What’s the word on Tuesday?

Comment from Travis Lauderman - October 29, 2012 at 6:03 pm

I hope cause my neighborhood is flooded and in my house

Comment from Angela - October 29, 2012 at 6:06 pm

When making the decision about tomorrow’s classes, please take into consideration that many of us are coming from across the water and from hard hit areas, like myself. We are not all local folks.

Comment from Josh - October 29, 2012 at 6:08 pm

Is school closed? Making it to school safe or even at all is not very likely.

Comment from Brianca - October 29, 2012 at 6:17 pm

It says in the news that conditions will get worse tomorrow and the next day. Why put students and faculty in danger by continuing to keep the school open. It doesn’t make any sense. Federal and government business are shut down. That should tell you something

Comment from Nick - October 29, 2012 at 6:18 pm

No disrespect intended, but I hope they make a decision soon before the power goes out and I won’t be able to check.

Comment from Kory - October 29, 2012 at 6:24 pm

With the flooding around numerous areas of Hampton Roads, the continuing winds and rain, it would be irresponsible for the TNCC administration not to cancel all classes on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.

Comment from Melanie - October 29, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Any word yet if school will be open Tuesday? It would be nice to know so I can arrange my day for childcare. Thanks!

Comment from Joe - October 29, 2012 at 6:44 pm

Is there going to be class in Hampton tomorrow?

Comment from Vicky - October 29, 2012 at 6:48 pm

When will we know if classes will be canceled for tomorrow Oct 30th??

Comment from Chelsea - October 29, 2012 at 6:50 pm

I hope school is closed tomorrow. I commute from Gloucester and the power’s out with trees everywhere. I feel as if for the students that live in low-lying flooded areas or areas with trees down it is unsafe for them to drive to school. I can’t even get out of my drive way and I have three important classes to go to tomorrow.

Comment from Alexandra Piotrowski - October 29, 2012 at 6:51 pm

I need to know whether or not Hampton campus will be closed tomorrow. I am driving all the way from Williamsburg, please post as soon as possible.

Comment from Valeria - October 29, 2012 at 6:51 pm

Are both campus going to be closed tomorrow?

Comment from Thomas Nelson Community College - October 29, 2012 at 6:55 pm

TNCC will open on Tuesday, October 30, at 11:00 am for all faculty, staff and students.
