TNCC Gears Up for 2012 Homecoming Celebration

Homecoming 2012Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) is gearing up for its sixth annual homecoming celebration. Themed “Gator Gras,” the festivities run Feb. 13 – 16.

Kicking off the week-long activities is Green and Gold Day on Feb. 13 and judging for a college-wide door decorating contest. Leading up to homecoming week, departments and groups can decorate their doors Feb. 6-10. For contest entry details, contact the Office of Student Activities at 825-2863. The College will add a twist to Valentine’s Day with “Valen Gras” on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Wythe Hall Gallery on the Hampton campus. Open students, faculty and staff, the event is an expo providing Valentine Day’s and Mardi Gras giveaways, Mardi Gras mask-making crafts and ballroom dance lessons.

On Feb. 15, students will meet candidates for the homecoming court during a king and queen pageant at 12 p.m. on the Hampton campus in Gators Cafeteria. The day also includes a 12 p.m. student social in the Student Commons at the Historic Triangle campus in Williamsburg.

Also among events is the Honor Council’s 4th Annual TNCC Student Conference on Feb. 16 from 1-5 p.m. in Espada, Moore Hall on the Hampton campus. Students will conduct presentations on an array of topics. The following day brings a masquerade ball sponsored by TNCC’s Ballroom Dance Club. The free event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to TNCC students and one guest each.

Homecoming events culminate in TNCC Gators basketball games on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Hampton’s Bethel High School, 1067 Big Bethel Road. The women’s game begins at 3 p.m. (opponents to be announced). The men’s game against Germana Community College starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $4 for TNCC students with valid ID; $5, general admission and free for children under 5.
