Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) and its Educational Foundation will host a benefit dinner on Thursday, September 22 honoring Peninsula residents Mr. and Mrs. John F. Biagas for their outstanding record of public service. A fundraising event set for 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, the dinner will support the establishment of an endowed scholarship for TNCC students. The scholarship will be named for Mr. and Mrs. Biagas.
The event will feature Cathy Lewis, Executive Editor for WHRO, as mistress of ceremonies and Virginia’s newly appointed Secretary of Education Laura W. Fornash as guest speaker. In addition, the evening’s entertainment will be provided by locally acclaimed performing artists RaJazz. Tickets are $100 and can be obtained by calling 825-2719.
Honorary chairs for the event are Jack L. Ezzell, Jr. (President and CEO, Zel Technologies, LLC), William M. Grace (CEO, Grace Industries, Inc. and Unique Photography, LLC) and Herbert V. Kelly, Jr. (partner in the firm of Jones, Blechman, Woltz & Kelly).
Mr. Biagas is owner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bay Electric Company, Inc. Based in Newport News, the company serves clients throughout the southeastern United States.
The youngest of 14 children, he joined his brothers and sisters working in the family’s business, Biagas & Son’s Electric, owned and operated by his father, Alvin Biagas, Sr.
After studying business management and accounting at McNeese State University, he joined three of his older brothers in Maryland to form AVA Electric. He purchased Bay Electric in 1997 and moved his family to Newport News.
Mr. Biagas serves on numerous boards including An Achievable Dream, Young Presidents’ Organization, Virginia Company Bank (founding member), Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula, Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council and York Foundation for Public Education, and was appointed to the Governor’s Economic Development & Job Creation Commission, the Governor’s Supplier Diversity Advisory Board and the Virginia Apprenticeship Council.
Mrs. Tricia Biagas is a life-long Virginia resident and a 1982 graduate of Denbigh High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1986. She is the Spouses Forum Coordinator for the Virginia Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization and serves on the York Foundation for Public Education Board. Strongly committed to supporting public education by helping to develop resources to encourage educational innovation, promote and recognize excellence and address the needs of all students, faculty and staff, Mrs. Biagas supports An Achievable Dream in Newport News and the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula.
Mr. and Mrs. Biagas have two daughters and reside in Yorktown.
