TNCC Observes Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday January 11-14

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday January 11-14 with a slate of activities. The calendar of events is as follows:

January 11 – Presidential Leadership Award Luncheon
11:30 a.m., Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg
Special guest Jeanne Zeidler, former Mayor of Williamsburg, will be awarded the TNCC Presidential Leadership Award. By invitation only.

January 12  – Presentation: “Economic Independence & Empowerment”
12:00 –1:00 p.m.

Gators Café, Griffin Hall, Hampton Campus
Presenter Reginald Hollaway, former financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, will discuss tips for managing your finances and preparing for your financial future. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

January 13 – Live Performance featuring Joshua Head & Company
12:00 –1:00 p.m.

Library Gallery, Wythe Hall, Hampton Campus
“The Soul of American Music: From spirituals to contemporary music for the soul” – Come witness a historical performance of spirituals, blues, gospel and soul music. Joshua Head will explain the evolution of each style.

January 14 – Community Volunteerism Project
Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service. Join your fellow TNCC students and co-workers, and help feed the homeless in Hampton or offer assistance to the less fortunate in Williamsburg. With supervisor approval, TNCC full-time faculty and staff can use up to three hours of the designated 16 community serve leave hours allocated annually for all VCCS full-time employees for one of these exciting projects.
Hampton: 5:00-8:00 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, 514 South Armistead Avenue
Feeding homeless citizens or checking in and mingling with guests.
Williamsburg: 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Grove Christian Outreach Center,
8910 Pocahontas Trail
Sorting clothing/food donations and/or assisting shut-ins, senior citizens or single parents by painting, yard work or delivering items.  Students, faculty and staff may sign up to volunteer by contacting Tia Freeman at or Latasha Holmes at, or call 757-825-3570.
