TNCC President’s Inauguration: An Opportunity to Welcome Dr. Charles A. Taylor to the VCCS

This week will be one of celebration for Thomas Nelson Community College, culminating in the Inauguration Ceremony of Dr. Charles A. Taylor on Friday, October 14, 2005, 2 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The college will close at noon on Friday, October 14, so that TNCC faculty, staff and students may attend the Inauguration Ceremony.

Dr. Taylor, the sixth president of ThomasNelson Community College, began his term as president in July 2004. The inauguration ceremony is an opportunity to express the college’s pride in his leadership and to welcome him officially into the Virginia Community College System.

The Inauguration program features keynote speaker Dr. Belle S. Wheelan, former Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia and currently President of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Other featured guests are VCCS Chancellor, Dr. Glenn DuBois, Delegate PhillipA. Hamilton, Delegate Jeion A. Ward and Dr. George Boggs of the American Association of Community Colleges. Delegates from each of the 23 community colleges in Virginia will also be in attendance. Music will be provided by the York River Concert Band and the Norfolk State University Spartan Chorale. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony with background music performed by the Hampton University Jazz Ensemble.

Additional on-campus events are being plannedto give Dr. Taylor the opportunity to share the Inauguration week with TNCC students. The first of the planned events is the TNCC Educational Foundation Scholarship Reception on Wednesday, October 12 th to honor Foundation scholarship sponsors and recipients. On Thursday, October 13 th , the Office of Student Activities is sponsoring the Hispanic Cinema Museum exhibit in the Wythe Hall Gallery from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. This traveling exhibit celebrates the achievements in Hispanics in the fields of film, theater and television. A breakfast for student leaders and President Taylor isalso scheduled for Friday morning, October 14.
