THE VIRGINIA PENINSULA – Four Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) students have won awards at the Peninsula Fine Arts Genesis 2006 College Juried Exhibition. The award-winning paintings, photography work and drawings were exhibited April 8-30, 2006 at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News. Also featured were the works of other students from Thomas Nelson Community College and several area colleges.
The show’s first place Mayor’s Art Award went to Thomas Nelson’s Fallon Williams for her photography entry “Cello Figure Study.” Another TNCC photography student, Ashley Segovia won the O’Neal’s Studio Award for her work entitled “Belle.” Fallon and Segovia are Newport News residents.
Susan Rilliett of York County received the Thomas Nelson Community College Award for her painting, “Walter.” For his painting “Still Life with Jars,” Ron Jensen of Hampton won the third place Newport News Art Commission Award.
Thomas Nelson students submitted 30 entries for the show. Of those, 18 were selected by jury and exhibited during the Peninsula Fine Arts Genesis Show. Those exhibited were as follows:

Donna Marrani – “Jadyn & Ryan” an ink and pastel collage
Sharon Meredith – “Forever My Love” a photograph
Ian Rilliett – Two digital inkjet prints
Satoko Saito – “Maki” an acrylic painting
Ashley Segovia – “Frank Bowie” a photograph
Susan Smith – “Lucid Expression” a drawing in pen
George Ware – “Leaving Home” an acrylic painting
Thomas Nelson Community College Fine Arts Department Head, Pam Brumley along with Photography Department Head, Shar Wolff commended all of the student participants for their efforts. Both associate professors said they are proud to play a role in the development of such remarkable talent.
