TNCC to Observe World AIDS Day with Awareness Program

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) will observe World AIDS Day on Wednesday, December 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Hampton campus with a series of activities and an awareness program titled “Kiss and Tell”  featuring speakers who are HIV positive.  Coordinated by Student Activities and the Student Government Association in conjunction with, the Self-Protection Awareness Program (SPA) , Newport News, AIDS awareness activities will take place in Gators, Griffin Hall. Free and open to the public, activities will include:

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
HIV Testing conducted by The AIDS Fund
(formerly, Tidewater AIDS Crisis Task Force -TACT)

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
AIDS Awareness Display and Information Table
Sponsored by SPA

12:00 p.m.
“Kiss and Tell”

First observed on December 1, 1988, World AIDS Day is aimed at raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education about HIV and AIDS. TNCC’s Student Affairs Coordinator Kadisia Archer notes that World AIDS Day is important in keeping the HIV and AIDS epidemics on peoples’ minds worldwide by spotlighting the fact that these debilitating illnesses have not gone away and much work remains to be done.
