Displaced Virginia students from universities in the Gulf Coast area will be able to register for fall semester classes at Thomas Nelson Community College. The college is adding a significant number of classes to its 8 week session that starts on October 18. Students from the Gulf Coast area universities will also be able to register for fall semester classes that have already begun. The college will be providing additional support services to students who start late due to Hurricane Katrina.
Dr. Charles A. Taylor, TNCC President said, “Those who experienced Hurricane Isabel here can only imagine the chaos that Katrina has left in her wake. The plight of the people suffering in aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and their families, are in the thoughts and concerns of all of us at Thomas Nelson Community College. Our students and employees have organized a campus fund- raising effort to help provide relief to all of those affected by this storm. TNCC will do everything within our abilities to provide assistance and relief to students from the area.”
Some of the classes that start in October will be offered at the Historic Triangle campus. Others will be offered at the Hampton campus. There are day and evening classes. Students who are interested in attending classes at TNCC should call the TNCC Welcome Center at 825-2800.
The following classes start October 18: Principles of Economics, History of Western Civilization, Keyboarding for Computer Usage, Specialized Software Applications, Web Page Design I, Introduction to Information Systems, Wan Technologies – CISCO, Basic Computer Literacy, Software Design, Computer Science II, Engineering Drawing Fundamentals, Advanced Technical Drafting, Parametric Solid Modeling, Computer Numerical Control I, College Composition I, History & Appreciation of Art I, Ethics, Beginning Spanish I, Principles of Public Speaking, Communications, Nursing Process and Care Planning, Elementary Statistics, Pre-calculus I, Algebra I, Algebra II, United States History I, Bowling I, Sports Appreciation, Introduction to Psychology I, College Success Skills.
These classes are also open to the general public. Anyone who missed starting classes in August can apply and enroll for the 8 week 2 session that begins in October. The admission process can be found on the Thomas Nelson website at: www.tncc.edu or may call 825-2800.
