Topic for November Session of TNCC’s Speaker Series is ‘A Post-election Analysis’

Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC) President Alvin J. Schexnider will welcome business and civic leaders from throughout the TNCC service area to the Hampton campus on Wednesday, November 18 for a presentation on the topic “A Post-election Analysis.” Founder and President of Virginia Tomorrow Dr. Robert Holsworth is guest speaker for the 7:30 a.m. session at the Espada Conference Center located in Moore Hall.

The breakfast meeting is part of a Speakers Series launched this year at TNCC to give community leaders an opportunity to convene with area educators and discuss important regional and national issues.

Former dean of Virginia Commonwealth University’s College of Humanities and Sciences, Holsworth holds a Bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University and a doctoral degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His company, Virginia Tomorrow, examines emerging trends in politics, society and business. His observations on national and Virginia politics have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times, among other news publications.

Holsworth is the recipient of two prestigious awards for teaching — the Virginia Commonwealth University Outstanding Teacher Award and the State Council for Higher Education of Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award. In 2008, the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals honored him for his contribution to public education in the Commonwealth.

He has authored numerous books, articles, chapters and papers and regularly serves as a guest lecturer and speaker. Holsworth has also held several non-academic leadership positions, including Executive Director of the Governor’s Commission on Efficiency and Effectiveness, Director of the Virginia Executive Institute, and co-staff Director of the Commission on Revitalizing Virginia’s Urban Areas.
