Weather Alert: Tornado Watch for the Hampton Roads area

Published: April 28, 2011

Please be advised that a Tornado Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for an area that includes Hampton Roads cities from now until 3:00 p.m. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for a tornado to form in the watch area. Stay tuned to local media outlets and weather alert radios for further updates. Be prepared to take cover on short notice. Storm Shelter Safe Areas are located throughout Thomas Nelson Community College campuses as indicated by yellow stickers above the doors.

At this time, the College is open for classes and office operations. In the event of a power outage, please note that candles/open flames are prohibited in campus buildings. College officials are monitoring weather conditions in efforts to provide further updates. For information on severe weather preparation, visit www.vaemergency.com or www.ReadyVirgina.gov.

Update 4:20pm: The Tornado Watch has been extended by the National Weather Service until 9pm this evening.

How soon will you post closure of the college due to the watch/warning for classes scheduled for 7:00pm?
