Grand Rebranding Event July 12 at Virginia Peninsula Community College

Something new is hatching at Virginia Peninsula Community College - home of the Gators. Formerly Thomas Nelson, the College officially takes its new name July 1 and will publicly usher it in at noon on July 12 with a grand rebranding event.

Open to the public, the historic two-hour event will take place on the Hampton campus at its tower near Interstate 64.

Joining President Dr. Towuanna Porter Brannon, students, faculty, and staff will be on hand for the festivities which include games, giveaways, music, food and more. Members of the College and Educational Foundation boards along with special guests representing local and state government, business, industry, and other sectors are also expected.

The event will also allow visitors to network and connect with College representatives to learn about available academic and workforce development programs.

As the new name takes hold many changes are underway involving everything bearing the school's former name. The community can expect to see new signs, banners and more in the coming months. The website, social media pages, letterhead, business cards, etc. will also be updated.

Officials emphasize that the College's mission is not changing. The highest priority is still a dedication to changing lives and transforming the community through diverse, inclusive, and equitable education and workforce training, excellent support and services, and innovative partnerships.

The College joins four others within Virginia's Community Colleges (VCCS) in being renamed. This month also sees Dabney S. Lancaster becoming Mountain Gateway Community College while John Tyler changes to Brightpoint Community College. Lord Fairfax recently became Laurel Ridge Community College and, after adding an ampersand to its name last year, Patrick Henry is Patrick & Henry Community College.

From campuses in Hampton and the Historic Triangle in Williamsburg as well as satellite locations, Virginia Peninsula Community College offers a myriad of academic and career training programs. Registration is now open for fall 2022 classes. Click here to learn more.
