Thomas Nelson and the Williamsburg Arts Council (WAC) are teaming up for a Fine and Performing Arts Reception on Sept. 27 at the College’s Williamsburg campus. The 5:30-7:30 p.m. event is part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Historic Triangle campus.
“We definitely wanted to honor the 10th anniversary of our Historic Triangle campus,” said Dr. Patrick Tompkins, provost of the Williamsburg campus.
The Williamsburg Arts Council sponsors a scholarship for a Thomas Nelson graduate, and the two groups have been trying to sponsor an event for a few years.
“We saw an opportunity to finally pull off the art show,” Tompkins said.
However, it will not be your typical art show.
Each of the three floors of the building will be dedicated to a specific group. The Williamsburg Arts Council will have work from well-known area artists on display (and for sale) on the first floor. The second floor will feature a Thomas Nelson faculty art show. The third floor will showcase the College’s performing arts department.
“We’re going to have some demonstrations from an acting class and demonstrations from ballroom dancing,” Tompkins said. “We’re also hoping to open up the dental hygiene clinic, the EMS lab and the nursing lab and do some tours.”
Also on display on the third floor will be videos of Thomas Nelson plays, sound bites of its choir performances and props from the theater department.
In addition, there will be live music with a strolling violinist and a guitarist. The day's activities will also include a 5-5:30 p.m. VIP reception.
