Thomas Nelson has partnered with NetworkPeninsula to offer the new Nonprofit Management Institute (NMI). This spring NMI Certificates in Fundraising Management were awarded to 18 local nonprofit staff members who completed 25 hours of training in three months over five classes.

NetworkPeninsula, a nonprofit entity, provides capacity-building programs for more than 300 Peninsula nonprofits. Thomas Nelson and NetworkPeninsula launched their joint initiative in January, and the 18 graduates represent 17 local nonprofits.

NMI is the first of its kind to be offered on the Peninsula. It is open to nonprofit staff, board members, and anyone interested in developing or improving their skills in the nonprofit sector. Experts in various nonprofit fields teach classes.

The Williamsburg Health Foundation was among the first groups to support this new initiative by providing training funds to enable greater Williamsburg nonprofits  to participate.

“We are fortunate in the Greater Williamsburg area to have so many great nonprofits working to meet the needs of our community,” said Carol Sale, President & CEO of the Foundation. “We are thrilled to have NetworkPeninsula stepping up to provide such high-quality, professional education for them right here at home.”

The goal of NMI is to educate nonprofit professionals and equip them with best practices in all areas of nonprofit management, leadership, and development.

“Nonprofit staff and board will not only learn how to work effectively on a daily basis, but they will also learn the latest trends in the areas of fundraising and leadership,” said NetworkPeninsula Executive Director Karen Dutro. “This will enable them to excel in their roles, to the ultimate benefit of their nonprofit and the communities in which they serve.”

The next class will begin Aug. 23 and is the first of five classes offered to obtain a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership. Classes are $85 per session with discounts provided to NetworkPeninsula members.

Participants can ultimately work toward a comprehensive Certificate in Nonprofit Management. In addition, each class provides participants with CEUs and CFREs, an international fundraising certification.
