The Nursing department acknowledged graduating students on Saturday, May 4 during a Pinning Ceremony. The event marked a new facet in the students' personal and professional lives and it symbolized their commitment to the profession.
During the ceremony, Hampton campus Nursing students recited the Nightingale Pledge which is named for Florence Nightingale, a pioneer in the field. The pledge is a promise to faithfully practice nursing, aid the physician and remain devoted to patients' welfare.
The event also included special recognition of Nursing Program heads Mary Kathryn Howard (Hampton) and Lisa Draper (Historic Triangle), both of whom are retiring. They were lauded for their numerous years of service as nursing educators and dedication to fostering student success.
The graduates received associate in applied science degrees in Nursing during Thomas Nelson's 50th Commencement Exercise on May 9. They will also take the National Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses.
