Students can make the most of their Thomas Nelson experience by taking advantage of numerous resources for academic, personal and professional improvement.Among resources is Tutor Zone at campuses inHampton and Historic Triangle in Williamsburg and its services are free.

The Writing Center and Math Center provide walk-in assistance for students, while Peer Tutoring offers appointments in many subjects such as biology, Spanish and accounting, to name a few. A complete list of the courses available through Peer Tutoring is accessible online by clicking HERE. The most up-to-date service hours and contact information are also available on the webpage.

Tutor Zone Coordinator Eve Walker said students also have the option to schedule their own peer tutoring sessions online. Students register for the first time at https://tncc.mywconline.com/ using their student email address.  They can log in to view the schedule at any time and make appointments.  Then, they simply visit to the Peer Tutoring Center for the appointment.

Two students, Jasmyn Gomez and Jose Guevara-Cortez, can’t say enough good things about their experience. "The Tutor Zone this summer was a great help to me. They were all very caring and genuinely wanted to see me succeed and do great in my classes,” said Gomez.

“The center was very flexible with scheduling and I was able to fit my schedule in without trouble. I greatly appreciate all the help that was given to me this summer to help me during my time at Thomas Nelson," she added.

Guevara-Cortez is an active duty service member whose schedule only permitted him to take an online class. “I recently finished chemistry class which I desperately needed for my degree, but since I work all day, I had no choice but to take it online.”

“I had the privilege of having two study sessions a week for eight weeks with a bright young man named Zaahin. If it wasn’t for the tutorship that I received from him … I wouldn’t have been able to pass my online class. I highly recommend Peer Tutoring … I plan on using this service again in the future,” said Guevara-Cotez.

Walker, who also assisted Guevara-Cortez when he used the Tutor Zone, said Smarthinking is another service Tutor Zone provides.

“It is free, available 24/7 and gives students access to online tutoring in writing, math, Spanish, science and career writing,” she added.
