Thomas Nelson’s Shanda Jenkins and Michael Sundblad, recipients of the 2018 Chancellor’s Faculty Fellowship from Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS), were recognized at the November meeting of the State Board for Community Colleges last week. The three educators were the only VCCS faculty members chosen for the prestigious fellowship. Recipients receive a $7,500 grant and up to a one-year leave of absence with support for salary and expenses while engaging in full-time graduate study. The studies prepare recipients for management and instructional positions within the VCCS. The fellowship also includes time used to complete course work and the time needed to complete a dissertation.
A psychology instructor who Joined Thomas Nelson in 2015, Jenkins is pursuing a doctoral degree in higher education at Old Dominion University. Sundblad, an associate professor and Thomas Nelson’s Performing Arts chair, is in the dissertation phase of studies with Boston University. Upon completion, he will receive Doctorate of Musical Arts in music education.
