Cheerleader Kerstain Carter was named the Thomas Nelson student-athlete of the year at the 69th annual Peninsula Sports Club award dinner on July 2.
In the classroom, Carter compiled a 3.6 GPA in the spring semester as she earned an associate degree of applied science in paralegal studies. She was also enrolled at Hampton University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies. In 2017, she earned an associate degree in social science, and the year before that a certificate in general education. She aims to pursue at master’s degree in law with a concentration in advanced paralegal studies.
Carter served as captain of Thomas Nelson's cheerleading team for the past two years. She is an Army veteran and has a 2-year-old daughter.
Every college and high school on the Peninsula, in addition to Gloucester High School, selects a student-athlete for this honor at the end of each academic year.
