Thomas Nelson Community College welcomed a group of Denbigh High School students to the Hampton campus last Thursday for a live-action mock emergency by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Nursing students.
The demonstration, staged by the Health Professions division, was part of a tour and information session coordinated by the College’s Outreach and Recruitment team. It offered a first-hand look at two exciting Thomas Nelson programs students can explore.
The high school visitors saw what the process entails after a 9-1-1 call takes place. The simulation demonstrated how EMS personnel transports a patient via ambulance to the hospital, performs patient care from the ambulance, and transfers patient care over to a Nursing team upon arriving at the hospital.
Nursing and EMS students, who tended to a “patient” suffering from chest pains during the Nov. 14 scenario, also gave tour participants valuable insight by discussing their classes and careers.
Thomas Nelson’s EMS ambulance and Nursing labs at Hampton III were sites of the scenario.
