Charles & Mary Hastings Memorial Scholarship

Charles and Mary Hastings were long-time residents of the Peninsula. Charles was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Mary a graduate of the College of William and Mary. In 1944 they founded the Hastings Instrument Company, a company in Hampton known today as Teledyne Hastings Instruments. 

On the Hampton campus of Thomas Nelson, Hastings Drive and Hastings Hall are named in their honor, in recognition of the help they gave to the founding of this college in the 1960s.

Scholarship Details
Amount: 
Not to exceed $2,500 per scholarship. Up to four available.
Semester(s) Awarded: 
Awarded in fall and divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. A GPA of 2.5 must be maintained in order to receive the award for the spring semester. Recipients may be eligible to receive the scholarship for a second year with the conditions they: maintain a 2.5 GPA and continue full or part-time status.

  • Letter of recommendation written by a guidance counselor or teacher.
Requirements: 
  • Be a Virginia resident; and
  • Minimum high school GPA of 2.5; and
  • Enrolled and maintain full or part-time status.

Thomas Nelson Educational Foundation, Inc. scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other related educational expenses.
