
The (CEHR) Certified Electronic Health Records certificate program provides specialized training in the use of Electronic Health Record systems among various healthcare organizations and healthcare professionals to support the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act of 2009. You can earn a certificate of completion from Virginia Peninsula Workforce Development and be qualified for entry-level employment in hospitals, clinics, or physician offices as an electronic health records specialist. This program will also prepare you to take the National Healthcareer Association’s (CEHR) Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist exam. You are encouraged to seek internships or work experience while completing coursework to further your employment opportunities.

Healthcare Communication

- Learn the essential elements of written and oral communication in healthcare settings. Discuss appropriate terminology, patient confidentiality, cultural and other influences on healthcare decisions, body language, and verbalizing pain as well as healthcare etiquette. Participants will role-play to gain confidence in communication skills.
Human Anatomy & Physiology I

- Study the human body through a systems approach, focusing on the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and cardiovascular systems.
Human Anatomy & Physiology II

Medical Terminology I & II

- Learn to pronounce, write, define and use medical terms properly. Participants gain knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations through a systems approach, focusing on the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and cardiovascular systems. Focus on the lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine and reproductive systems.
Electronic Health Records I & II

- Learn what Electronic Health Records (EHR) are, how to use medical record software, and process electronic orders. Understand the HIPPA laws, use the Internet for patient care, and learn EHR coding.

Medical Office Procedures I

- Learn telephone skills, appointment scheduling, patient reception and registration, and proper management of health care information.
- Prerequisites: Basic computer skills are needed to complete lab exercises.
Medical Office Procedures II

- Prepare for a professional medical office position by learning advanced business operations, bookkeeping and payroll, and billing and insurance practices in the medical field.
- Prerequisites: Successful completion of Medical Office Procedures I.
Medical Coding and Billing III
- 24 hours/2.4 CEUs/$275
- Advanced preparation for a career as a coding and billing specialist to include intensive practice of diagnostic and procedural coding for the evaluation and management, anesthesia and surgical domains of the CPT.
Medical Coding & Billing IV

- Continue advanced preparation, to include intensive practice of diagnostic and procedural coding for the radiology, pathology/laboratory and medical domains of the CPT.

CEHRS Exam Prep
