One Stop Event Huge Success

Teamwork made Virginia Peninsula Community College’s third annual One Stop event July 25 a huge success, with approximately 125 potential students participating. Athletics director Chris Moore said he received great feedback from students, parents and College staff.

The event, which was held in Kecoughtan Hall, allowed potential students to finalize their enrollment process in one location and in one afternoon. Previous One Stop events were exclusively for athletes. However, this year, VPCC partnered with the What’s Next program, which assists community members interested in learning a skilled trades, and Workforce Development students were welcome.

On hand were College representatives from admissions, advising, financial aid, student accounts and the office of accessibility. In addition, potential students were able to learn about Single Stop, JumpStart/TRiO, Great Expectations, and The Shop, all programs helping students overcome barriers that impede their chances of success. VPCC’s athletic trainers, who are from Riverside Health Systems, were on hand for student-athletes who needed a physical.

Moore said the event couldn’t have gone as well as it did without everyone’s cooperation.
