Financial Aid Checklist

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early by clicking this link: FAFSA. Our federal school code is 006871.

  2. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR), which FAFSA will send you, for any errors, and please correct them immediately to prevent any delays in your financial aid processing.

  3. Please check your VCCS e-mail account and your "To Do" list through the MyVPCC portal regularly for requests and news from Financial Aid.

  4. Respond as quickly as possible to financial aid information requests. Failure to submit documents or additional information will delay financial aid availability.

  5. Ensure you have a valid Social Security Number on your admission application: DO NOT leave it blank or use all 9s. Please contact Enrollment Services to add or correct your Social Security Number and then notify Financial Aid.

  6. Make sure you have updated your program/plan of study so that it is eligible for financial aid. Career Exploration, High School Student, and Transfer are examples of ineligible program plans. Please contact the Advising Center to update your academic program plan and then notify Financial Aid.

  7. Register for classes early and try to enroll in the earlier sessions (16 weeks, eight weeks 1) to prevent delays in receiving your financial aid refunds. 12 or more credits = full-time enrollment.

  8. Be sure to attend your classes and contact your instructors if you cannot attend. This is important throughout the semester, but especially the first week. Students who do not show up the first week risk being dropped from their classes.

  9. If you are having difficulties in your classes, please ask for help! If you are considering withdrawing from your classes, contact Financial Aid first. Withdrawing can have academic and financial implications.

  10. Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to keep your financial aid from being canceled. Click the following link for more information about SAP.

  11. You can select to receive your financial aid refund faster via Direct Deposit. If you select to receive your refund as a paper check, please make sure your address is correct with the College to ensure you receive the refund check(s). Check your MyVPCC portal to make sure that your address is correct (update it immediately if needed to avoid any delays).
