Explore a curriculum that emphasizes cultural and social understanding, critical thinking, written and oral communication, quantitative and scientific reasoning and information literacy to develop skills required in the workplace or for baccalaureate studies in programs such as psychology, economics, political science, history and sociology.

As a part of its Social Science program, Virginia Peninsula offers a specialization in Education that includes Introduction to Teaching as a Profession. The course examines historical perspectives, current issues in education, educational trends and requirements for licensure in Virginia. It also includes a 40-hour practicum in a public school and courses in writing, public speaking, literature, math, lab science and history.

Virginia Peninsula’s Social Science degree is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related fields. Virginia Peninsula graduates who complete the program with a certain grade point average can benefit from special admission agreements with other Virginia colleges and universities, including Old Dominion University, William & Mary and Christopher Newport University. Graduates with bachelor’s degrees in the field pursue careers as:
