Virginia Peninsula Community College student Michael Armstrong, a native of Sydney, Australia, had sole responsibility for three children as an at-home dad while his wife was deployed with her U.S. Army unit from Fort Eustis.
"I thought I wanted to be an electrician. [Assistant Professor Deborah] Lichniak convinced me that I needed to come into this program instead because this gives me more options in the long run. I can still go and be an electrician with this knowledge if I wanted to. As it turns out, I find this stuff way more interesting and enjoyable than residential or commercial electrical work. Coming in here and seeing all of this, I realized there's a whole gamut of jobs in electronics. I'm a problem-solver and that is what it's about," said Armstrong.
